Atlanta Braves Option Chasen Shreve to Gwinnett

Left-hander heads to Triple-A for the first time in his career
August 1, 2014

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Atlanta Braves have optioned left-hander Chasen Shreve to Triple-A Gwinnett. With the additions of newly acquired left-hander James Russell and infielder Emilio Bonifacio from the Chicago Cubs, the Braves moved Shreve to Triple-A and designated outfielder Jordan Schafer for assignment today to make room on the 25-man roster.

Additionally today, the Braves announced the release of right-hander Luis Vasquez, who had been on Gwinnett's disabled list since May 2 with a right elbow strain.

Shreve, 24, appeared in five games for the Braves, going 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA (1 ER in 5.0 IP). He allowed six hits and struck out seven in his Major League debut stint with Atlanta.

Atlanta's 11th round draft pick in the 2010 June free agent draft out of the College of Southern Nevada, Shreve has been with the Braves' organization for five seasons. Prior to being called up to the Majors on July 19, the southpaw was having a solid 2014 season with Double-A Mississippi. In 36 games, he was 3-2 with a 2.48 ERA (15 ER in 54.1 IP) and was 7-for-7 in save opportunities.

Vasquez, 28, went 1-0 with an 11.91 ERA (15 ER in 11.1 IP) in 11 relief appearances with Gwinnett from April 3 through May 2.

The Gwinnett Braves conclude a four-game road series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Friday night, first pitch from PNC Field scheduled for 7:05 PM.
