Bob Horner Crawdads Meet-N-Greet

Former Atlanta Braves All-Star highlights 'Dads May 30th game

Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads are proud to announce that former Atlanta Braves Rookie of the Year and All-Star Bob Horner will appear at L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday, May 30th as the Crawdads host the Rome Braves at 6pm.

Bob Horner Meet-N-Greet tickets are on sale now for $25. Fans who purchase a Meet-N-Greet ticket are treated to a special pre-game picnic that includes the opportunity to meet, take a photo with, and receive autographs from Horner. The Meet-N-Greet ticket also includes a meal along with a Reserved ticket for the Crawdads game.

The Meet-N-Greet will begin at 5pm in the Picnic Pavilion. Meet-N-Greet tickets can be purchased over the phone at (828) 322-3000, in-person at L.P. Frans Stadium, or online at www.hickorycrawdads.com.

Individual game tickets for the 'Dads 2015 season go on sale Saturday, March 14th at the Crawdads free Spring Fling event at L.P. Frans Stadium. The 'Dads open their season with an exhibition game against Lenoir-Rhyne University on Tuesday, April 7th before beginning South Atlantic League play at home on Thursday April 9th against the Hagerstown Suns.

Horner, 57, was the 1978 National League Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in 1982 for the Atlanta Braves. A star collegiate third baseman at Arizona State University, Horner was named the MVP of the 1977 College World Series before winning the first-ever Golden Spikes Award as the nation's best amateur player in 1978. He was eventually a member of the inaugural College Baseball Hall of Fame class in 2006.

Following his standout collegiate career, Horner became just the 12th player since the creation of the draft in 1965 to go straight to the major leagues when he was drafted first overall by the Braves in '78. He would go on to win the Rookie of the Year award after batting .266 with 23 home runs and 63 RBI over 89 games. Horner was named a National League All-Star in '82 with a .261 average, 32 homers and a career-high 97 RBI. He spent nine total seasons in Atlanta, before playing one year in Japan with the Yakult Swallows in 1987 and one season with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1988. Horner finished his career with a .277 average, 218 home runs, and 685 RBI.
