Paulson pitches Hillcats to second straight win

Carter homers as offense scores season-high eight runs

Woodbridge, Va. - For the first time this season, the Lynchburg Hillcats registered a come-from-behind victory, as they beat the Potomac Nationals, 8-2, on Saturday night at Pfitzner Stadium. 

Woodbridge, Va. - For the first time this season, the Lynchburg Hillcats registered a come-from-behind victory, as they beat the Potomac Nationals, 8-2, on Saturday night at Pfitzner Stadium. 

The Hillcats (9-7) registered a season-high eight runs in the win over the P-Nats (9-8).
Down 2-1 in the fifth, the Hillcats grabbed a 3-2 lead when Conner Capel  ripped a two-run double. Erlin Cerda doubled and Mitch Longo  singled to set up Capel's go-ahead hit.
Lynchburg plated a trio of runs in the eighth inning to add on to their lead. With two out, Jodd Carter  blasted a two-run shot, his first home run of the season. Later in the inning, after Logan Ice  and Dillon Persinger hit consecutive singles, Ice came around to score when Bryan Mejia committed an error on a ground ball to second base.
With one on in the ninth, Capel cracked his second RBI double of the game to extend Lynchburg's lead to 7-2. Capel later scored when Carter Kieboom threw the ball away on a routine ground ball that would have ended the inning.
The Hillcats scored their first run of the game in the second inning when Carter singled home Li-Jen Chu.
Lynchburg starter Jake Paulson  (Win, 2-1) worked seven strong innings. The right-hander allowed just two runs (one earned) on three hits, and struck out a season-high five. Micah Miniard worked for the final two scoreless innings in relief.
Sterling Sharp (Loss, 1-2) pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits, striking out two. Hayden Howard surrendered three runs in 1.2 innings and Gabe Klobosits gave up two runs in 1.1 innings of work.
Carter and Capel each finished with a season-high three RBI. Lynchburg has won two straight road games for the first time this season.
The Hillcats will conclude their series against Potomac on Sunday. Left-hander Sam Hentges (2-0, 0.56) will make his fourth start of the season for Lynchburg and the P-Nats will send righty Joan Baez (0-1, 5.23) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at Pfitzner Stadium.
