Hub City’s alternate identities give the Spartanburgers three more ways to represent the town they call home. The Gusanos de Mezcal del ‘Burg celebrate Spartanburg’s Hispanic and Latino community through the smoky spirit of mezcal, the Spartan Regiment honors the militia that gave the city its name in the year of America’s 250th anniversary, and the Spartanburg Sluggers pay tribute to the Black semi-pro team that called Duncan Park home as part of Minor League Baseball’s “The Nine” initiative. Each one is a reminder that this team belongs to everyone in town, however they like to celebrate it.
