Rusin Named Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month

Albuquerque, NM - The Chicago Cubs named LHP Chris Rusin their Minor League Pitcher of the Month for June on Wednesday and also optioned him back to Iowa after starting for the major league club in Oakland on Tuesday.

Rusin was 3-3 with a 2.86 ERA (14ER/44.0IP) in six June starts for Iowa. He struck out 26, walked eight, and limited opponents to a .234 average. For the season, Rusin is 7-7 with a 3.27 ERA (40ER/110.0IP) in 17 games and 16 starts for Iowa. He leads the league in WHIP (1.10), is second in innings pitched, and ranks fifth in ERA. On Monday, he was named to the PCL All-Star Team.

The Cubs named Daytona SS Javier Baez the Minor League Player of the Month. Baez batted .300 (27-for-90) with seven doubles, a league-best nine home runs, and 28 RBI in 24 games in June. His month included a four-homer game on June 10 vs. Fort Myers.
