What's New at Principal Park

Covid-19 Policies

Updated 4/15/21

FACE MASKS:

  • Per guidelines set forth by Major League Baseball through the Commissioner’s Office, everyone two years old and older attending an event at Principal Park is REQUIRED to wear a face mask during their stay at the ballpark except for the times you are actively eating or drinking. This includes when you are seated in your reserved seat for the game. All employees of the Iowa Cubs, our concession partner Centerplate, or any other organization affiliated with operating Principal Park will also wear masks at all times and either wash their hands or use hand sanitizer frequently during their shifts.

Social distancing, face masks and frequent hand washing are clear recommendations for ways you can reduce your risk of catching or spreading COVID-19.

SOCIAL DISTANCING:

The main seating bowl is available for pod seating with tickets available in sets of two, four or six. Individual ticket buyers needing more than six tickets may purchase multiple pods of tickets in the same section, but must not tamper with closed seats to combine their group into a larger section.

  • For at least the month of May, individual ticket buyers will have at least two empty seats or an aisle to the left and right of their pod and the seats directly in front of and directly behind each pod will be closed and unavailable for purchase. The only exception will be for group sales (25 or more people) in designated sections who volunteer to sit in a traditional block of tickets. There will be at least one empty row between groups or between a group and pod of individual tickets. Group ticket blocks are only available for Sunday through Thursday games in May.
  • Unavailable seats will be secured in a locked position to prevent any person from compromising the integrity of the spacing.
  • Major League Baseball has required designated buffer zones around key player areas including the dugouts, the bullpens, and the on-deck circle. Seats in these buffer zone areas will be covered by tarps and entry into that area for any reason is absolutely prohibited.

Please pay attention to all posted signs and floor markings to help keep people six feet apart in common areas including ticket windows, entry gates, restrooms, and concession lines. The capacity of the ballpark will be limited to allow for safe distancing in all of these areas.

Elevator capacity will be restricted to no more than five people and those five people must be part of the same family or group that are part of the same seating group.

OUTSIDE THE STADIUM

Fans are expected to maintain social distance from other groups as they make their way from the parking lot to the gates. Only two of four ticket windows will be open at the ticket offices outside Gates A and B to limit crowding. If you have a need for a ticket window, please have only one member of your party stand in line.

Social distancing, face masks and frequent hand washing are clear recommendations for ways you can reduce your risk of catching or spreading COVID-19.

The best way to buy tickets for Iowa Cubs games in online - especially when seating capacity is limited. Digital ticketing allows you to share tickets with friends and co-workers via email and avoid being in lines and gathering groups of fans at the ballpark. Within the digital ticketing system, you can use your smart phone to get scanned into the ballpark when you arrive, but smart phones are not required. Print-at-home options are still available.

WALK-UP TICKETS/WILL CALL

If fans arrive at Principal Park without tickets, members of the Iowa Cubs staff will be available outside the gates to help fans purchase tickets through their phone rather than waiting in line. The ticket windows will only be open for walk-up purchases starting three hours prior to game time. Any Will Call opportunities will be handled at Window 4 outside Gate B.

PREMIUM TICKET PICK-UP

Fans picking up tickets and wristbands for our premium areas do not need to report to a ticket window. All check-ins for the Betfred Sports Left Field Lounge or the all-you-can-eat Budweiser Club should report to the Iowa Cubs tent outside Gate A. All check-ins for the BMW of Des Moines Skybox Suites should check-in at the tent next to the green awning outside Gate C.

Per guidelines from Major League Baseball, promotional opportunities will be different for at least the beginning of this year and will be evaluated as the season progresses:

  • There will be post-game fireworks after all Friday night games and kids will be allowed to run the bases after Sunday afternoon games. Parents will be allowed to accompany their children onto the field, but must maintain appropriate distance from other parents. There will be three exits available (two in the Home Plate Club and one on the outfield side of the third base dugout) to allow for distancing and a consistent flow on the field.
  • No members of the general public will be allowed on the field prior or during the game. Fans will still have the opportunity to participate in contests and games in other ways by engaging in the video board, the digital program, and other opportunities in the concourse.
  • National Anthem singers will be live for most games, but performing from the grandstand and displayed on the video board.
  • Until further notice, players will not be available for autograph requests or to interact with fans.
  • Cubbie Bear will be present at home games, but won’t be wandering freely through the ballpark as usual to begin the year. There will be a designated time and place announced each game where fans can see and get photos with Cubbie Bear.

RESERVED SEATING ONLY

As long as pod seating is required, General Admission tickets will not be issued and all seats in the main seating bowl will be reserved seats. Available seats below the walkway are designated as Club Box Seats. Available seats above the walkway are designated Reserved Grandstand seats. Section 10 remains designated as Upper Box Seats.

_*For Sunday through Thursday games, seat arrangements in Sections 5 (day games only), 7 & 15 are subject to change to accommodate group reservations. _

  • Tailgating in the Iowa Cubs parking lots will be allowed in 2021. Fans are expected to maintain social distance from other groups as they make their way to the game.
  • Parking spots are to be used for parked cars only. Fans are prohibited from blocking spots or taking up parking spots with tailgating activities.
  • Grills are permitted in Iowa Cubs parking lots, but are limited to the grass areas surrounding the lots.

Due to necessary work by the City of Des Moines, certain areas of the parking lots and surrounding spaces may be limited on game days throughout the season. Please use the map below to familiarize yourself with the available entrances and spaces prior to your arrival at the ballpark.

Parking Map - First Entrance Closed

For decades, the core philosophy of our organization was to do everything we could to make the ballpark “Clean, Safe and Fun” in that order. To achieve that goal, our staff has always followed a thorough cleaning protocol. Moving forward, we will continue to do the things that we’ve always done and add some extra steps specific to the guidelines currently established by the CDC and governing bodies.

WHAT WE’VE ALWAYS DONE:

  • Thorough cleaning of restrooms and concession stands before every public event
  • Thorough removal and safe disposal of trash away from public areas
  • Periodic pressure washing of concourse and seating bowl during the year
  • Daily high-intensity hosing of all seating areas and concourse
  • Daily vacuum and surface cleaning in every skybox suite
  • Daily surface cleaning of doors and hand rails plus mopping of floors in reception lobby and interior stairwell
  • Provide free access to hand sanitizing stations throughout the concourse

NEW PROCEDURES WE ARE ADDING:

  • Following general cleaning, we will use eco-friendly sanitizing spray before and after every event in all restrooms, concession stands, dugouts and elevators
  • Approximately once per hour, a staff member will wipe down frequently used surfaces in each restroom while the gates are open for an event
  • Water fountains and self-service water stations will not be available
  • When the game is over, ushers will direct fans to designated stairs/ramps to return to the concourse level so that fans aren’t crossing one another in different directions and crowding together.
  • If a game in progress is delayed by weather and fans choose to, or are directed to leave the main grandstand, safe social distancing should still be maintained throughout the concourse area. In these cases only, fans will be allowed to leave the stadium to maintain distancing and return when the game is resumed. Fans will have to pass back through the metal detectors on re-entry, but their original ticket will be valid. Re-entry will not be allowed under any other circumstance.

GROUP TICKETS

The Iowa Cubs are pleased to offer discounted ticket opportunities for Sunday through Thursday games only as long as seating limitations are in place. Group rates are available for groups of 25 or more. Groups will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups can choose to have all of their tickets blocked together in a designated section or can choose to have their seats in the designated pod set-up for their game.
