TODAY'S GAME: Iowa and Oklahoma City play game three of the four-game set today at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. With the win today, Iowa would secure its third series victory with all three coming on the road.
RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE: Iowa's 10 April victories are it's most in the month since going 10-12 in 2017. A win today would give the I-Cubs their best April record since going 14-9 in 2014. In the team's PCL history, Iowa has recorded 10+ wins in April 11 times.
LEFTY LOVING: Iowa improved to 5-1 against left-handed starters with last night's victory. As a team, the I-Cubs are batting .275 (56-for-204) vs. lefties with 19 doubles, three triples and nine home runs. Against righties, the team average drops to .225 (70-for-311) with 14 doubles, three triples and seven home runs. Among Iowa's position players, six bat right-handed, five bat left and Ian Happ is a switch hitter.
HEEERE'S JOHNNY: Johnny Field is 4-for-10 with three runs, one double, seven RBI and one strikeout through his last two games and has homered in back-to-back contests. The outfielder has hit home runs in consecutive contests just one other time in his career -- April 12 and 15, 2014 while with Single-A Bowling Green. Field's seven RBI through his last two games are the most of any consecutive games in his career.
HEATING UP: After hitting just .115 (3-for-26) with 11 strikeouts through seven games to start the season, outfielder Zach Borenstein is starting to lock in. Over his last four games, the outfielder is 7-for-13 with a home run, five runs batted in and a walk. He's also contributed two outfield assists. He's raised his season average to .256 with this performance.
PITCHERS WHO RAKE: Trevor Clifton punched a double and Ryan Williams walked, adding the I-Cubs' pitchers impressive offense this season. Iowa pitchers are batting .263 (5-for-19) this season and have two runs, three doubles, two walks and eight strikeouts between them.
AGAINST OKLAHOMA CITY: Iowa and Oklahoma City split a series 2-2 last time around at Principal Park. Will Smith gave Iowa the most trouble as he went 4-for-10 with five runs, one double, two home runs, three walks and four RBI. On Iowa's end, Trent Giambrone led the charge with a 6-for-16 series, three runs, one double, three home runs and four RBI. Ian Happ did his fair share in the matchup, hitting 4-for-14 with three runs, two doubles, one home run, one walk and two RBI.
THAT'S GOOD QUALITY: With three earned runs allowed through 6.0 innings, Colin Rea notched his second quality start of the season Friday and just the third for the I-Cubs' staff. Through his last two starts, Rea is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA (3ER/12.0IP), 12 hits, three walks and nine strikeouts.
GIVE ME 10: Iowa has put up double-digits in the scoring column in back-to-back games. In the record books, the last time Iowa scored 10+ runs in consecutive games was June 24-25, 2017, beating Round Rock 10-5 and 13-4, respectively. However, June 25's contest was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the second and later completed on July 1 in Iowa. Prior to this, it was May 30-31, 2016 when Iowa last scored 10+ in back-to-back games, besting Albuquerque 11-0 and Oklahoma City 11-6.
WALK THIS WAY: Iowa has drawn eight walks in back-to-back games, one shy of its season high set on April 6 vs. Nashville. The I-Cubs have drawn the second-fewest walks in the PCL this season with 56 -- tied with New Orleans and leading Nashville and San Antonio with 54 apiece. Dixon Machado paces the group with 12, while Phillip Evans is second with eight.
FIRST IN LINE: Iowa scored in the first inning last night for just the second time this season. Opponents have scored 11 first-inning runs off the I-Cubs.
SHORT HOPS: Iowa has scored first in a game six times this season, going 5-1 in those contests...The I-Cubs are 8-2 when scoring more than four runs...Iowa notched a season-high 11 runs last night.
