TONIGHT'S GAMES: The I-Cubs will kick off their final eight games of the 2018 season--hosting Oklahoma City for four, including a twin bill this evening. RHP Trevor Clifton (3-3, 4.20) will take the ball for Iowa in Game 1, while newcomer RHP Duncan Robinson (1-0, 0.00) will make his second Triple-A start. Iowa will face RHP Justin DeFratus (3-4, 5.60) in Game 1, and RHP Zach Neal (3-2, 4.19) in Game 2 . This will be Iowa and Oklahoma City's third double-header against eachother this season.
MULTIPLIED: Three I-Cubs registered multi-hit games and four had extra-base hit nights in last night's 8-3 victory. Chris Coghlan and Mike Freeman each collected a duo of hits, with one run and one RBI apiece. Coghlan is now at six two-hit games for a total of eight multi-hit efforts. Freeman's two singles propelled him past Ryan Court to move into second on the team with 24 multi-hit games, trailing Mark Zagunis and Taylor Davis' 26. Coghlan and Zagunis' doubles were matched by Jacob Hannemann, who roped two in a five extra-base hit game for the I-Cub offense.
HAMMERIN' HANNEMANN: Jacob Hannemann collected his first four-hit night of the season to match a career-high single game hit production. The last time he notched four hits was on July 24, 2015 against Chattanooga while with Double-A Tennessee. Last night was the fourth time in his career he has accomplished the feat. Hannemann also registered his first multi extra-base hit game of the season with two doubles. Hannemann accomplished the feat three times last season between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa. In total, Hannemann has 14 multi extra-base hit games in six seasons of minor league baseball. The outfielder was a single shy of the cycle with the Tennessee Smokies on June 13, 2015, collecting two doubles, a triple and home run for one of two three extra-base nights in his career. The other came on July 24, 2015 with Double-A Tennessee.
RUNNING CIRCLES: Last night's eight runs were the most Iowa has scored against Oklahoma City this season. Over the I-Cubs' previous two wins, the team collected seven runs combined. Iowa is now 5-0 when scoring eight runs and 14-12 when allowing three runs.
FREEMAN ON FIRE: Since coming off the DL on Aug. 17, Mike Freeman has collected a hit in nine of 11 games. The shortstop's 2-for-4 night in yesterday's game was his seventh multi-hit effort in the span. Freeman is hitting .400 (16-for-40) with 10 RBI.
AGAINST OKLAHOMA CITY: Iowa and Oklahoma City meet for the final time over the next four games. The Dodgers own the season record at 10-3, including a five-game sweep at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in April. The I-Cubs are 2-3 as the home team, including a rescheduled home game played at Oklahoma City.
JASON BOSSLER: Jason Vosler hit the second grand slam of his career last night in the first inning (1st-June 29, 2017). His four RBI accounted for half the run production in the 8-3 win. The corner infielder paces the I-Cubs with 10 RBI and two home runs over the last 10 games. Vosler also continues to pace all Cub farmhands with 22 home runs on the season between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. Tennessee's Trent Giambrone and Zack Short are tied for second with 17 long balls.
FULL COURT: Ryan Court's three walks on the night matched a season-high, which he registered on May 8. Over his last six games, Court has walked eight times and struck out seven--the first time this season Court has drawn eight walks over a six-game span. Since Aug. 4 (25 days), the infielder has collected 21 of his 53 walks on the season, striking out just 27 times out of his 142 Ks. He also gathered a 10-game hit-streak during the span and has reached base in 19 of his last 23 games.
COG IN THE WHEEL: After hitting .190 in the month of July, Chris Coghlan is batting .256 in August. The utility man has recorded a hit in nine of his last 13 games with five doubles and three multi-hit efforts.
ROSTER ROTATION: The Iowa Cubs welcome three Major League rehabbers to the roster. LHP Brian Duensing joins the squad for his second rehab assignment of his career with Iowa. RHP Tyler Chatwood is making his first appearance with the I-Cubs. He threw a 4.1-inning start at Omaha (Aug. 27), giving up two earned runs on three hits with five walks and three Ks. Kris Bryant joins Iowa for his second stint in Des Moines. Bryant went 1-for-2, R, RBI, 2BB in his first start at Principal Park since 2015. RHP James Norwood has been called up to Chicago to fill the 26th spot in the Cubs' DH with the Mets. This will be Norwood's third big-league promotion in 2018.
SHORT HOPS:Luke Farrell won his first game as an I-Cub in last night's 8-3 win, registering a season-high 7Ks in the process...seven of eight starting position players scored a run and notched a knock in last night's 12-hit game.
