Jorge Soler activated; RHP Rowen added to Iowa

Metairie, La. - The Chicago Cubs have made a series of roster moves today affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game at New Orleans. Outfielder Jorge Soler was activated from the major league disabled list, ending his rehab assignment with Iowa. Additionally, Chicago signed right-handed pitcher Ben Rowen to a minor league contract and assigned him to Iowa.

Soler, 23, went 2-for-13 with an RBI, four strikeouts and three walks in four games for Iowa on his rehab assignment.

Rowen, 26, comes to the Cubs from the Baltimore Orioles organization, where he was a combined 2-0 with a 2.41 ERA (10ER/37.1IP) in 26 games between Triple-A Norfolk and Double-A Bowie. He opted out of his contract on July 1 to sign with Chicago.

Rowen was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 22nd round of the 2010 June draft out of Virginia Tech. He has eight games of major league experience under his belt with Texas is 2014, going 0-0 with a 4.15 ERA (4ER/8.2IP) and seven strikeouts.

With these moves, Iowa's active roster is at 24 players plus one player on major league rehab assignment.
