LHP Clayton Richard recalled by Chicago Cubs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Chicago Cubs made a series of moves today affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game at Colorado Springs. Left-handed pitcher Clayton RIchard was recalled to make this afternoon's start at Milwaukee. Meanwhile, infielder/outfielder Mike Baxter has been outrighted to Triple-A and is on Iowa's active roster.
Richard, 31, is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA (9ER/15.0IP) in three appearances (two starts) with Chicago this season. He was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 3 for a cash consideration.
Richard was optioned to Triple-A on July 22 and made one start for Iowa. The lefty shut out the Nashville Sounds over 7.0 innings with three strikeouts on July 28 in a win.
Richard began the season with Pittsburgh's Triple-A Indianapolis affiliate and went 4-2 with a 2.09 ERA (13ER/56.0IP) in nine starts. Richard pitched in all or part of six major league seasons with the Chicago White Sox (2008-09) and San Diego Padres (2009-13). He is 47-47 with a 4.35 ERA (381ER/788.1IP) in 150 appearances, including 131 starts.
Baxter, 30, is hitting .300 (39-for-130) with 11 RBI in 44 games with Iowa. He batted .246 (14-for-57) with one double and two RBI in 34 games with Chicago this season.
With these moves, Iowa's active roster is at 23 players plus two players on the disabled list and two players on major league rehab assignment.
