KALISH BOOSTS I-CUBS OVER SKY SOX
Des Moines, IA - Ryan Kalish fell a home run shy of the cycle as he helped the Iowa Cubs (8-11) to a 10-5 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (8-11), Thursday night at Principal Park.
Iowa jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings with the help of three walks, one intentional, and six hits before Garin Cecchini got Colorado Springs on the board for the first time in the fourth with a solo home run. The two teams continued to trade runs until the Sky Sox inched within two after six, with the I-Cubs hanging on to a 7-5 edge. Albert Almora Jr. gave the I-Cubs insurance in the eighth with a towering three-run home run to push the home team ahead 10-5.
Kalish continued his hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one walk, four runs scored and one RBI to improve his season average to .413. Willson Contreras helped the offense with four walks, one RBI and two runs scored, as Albert Almora Jr. contributed a 3-for-5 night with a home run and three RBI.
Ryan Williams (2-1) gave the I-Cubs 5.2 innings, allowing four runs off six hits with two walks and four strikeouts to take his second win of the season. Colorado Springs' Jorge Lopez (0-1) was tagged with the loss as the I-Cubs chased him after 3.0 innings.
