Zastryzny and Pena Headed to The Show

August 19, 2016

DES MOINES, IA - The Chicago Cubs selected the contracts of right-handed pitcher Felix Pena and left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny from Triple-A Iowa, the club announced today. This is the first call to the major leagues for both players.

Lefty Zastryzny was a second-round draft pick by the Cubs in 2013 out of the University of Missouri. The 24-year-old began 2016 with Double-A Tennessee and posted a 3-2 record with a 4.28 ERA before getting promoted to Iowa. With the I-Cubs, Zastryzny collected a 7-3 record with a 4.33 ERA and was riding a three-game winning streak. Entering today, he also paced all Cubs' farm hands with 119 strikeouts between the two levels.

Right-handed reliever Pena, 26, was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Cubs in 2009 when he was 19 years old. He was assigned to Iowa to start the year and went 3-4 with three saves and a 3.41 ERA. Pena accumulated 81 strikeouts while walking 23 through 63.1 innings. He had allowed one earned run through his last 14.0 frames.

Iowa and Sacramento play the series finale at 9:05 CT tonight at Raley Field before returning to Principal Park for eight games in nine days beginning Saturday. For more information or tickets visit www.iowacubs.com.
