Des Moines, IA - Right-handed pitcher Michael Bowden joins the Iowa Cubs today, after being designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs on June 1. Chicago selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Manuel Corpas from Iowa yesterday.

Bowden posted no record with a 7.45 ERA (8 ER/9.2 IP) in 10 relief appearances with Chicago this season.

The 25-year-old was acquired by the Cubs as part of a trade that sent outfielder Marlon Byrd to the Boston Red Sox. Bowden had no record and a 3.00 ERA (1 ER/3.0 IP) in two relief appearances with Boston prior to the trade this season.

Veteran right-hander Manuel Corpas struck out two batters while pitching one scoreless inning for Chicago last night against the Milwaukee Brewers. It was his first appearance in the majors since Aug. 25, 2010.

Corpas, 29, is 0-2 with a 4.01 ERA (15 ER/33.2 IP) in 19 relief appearances with Iowa this season.
