Iowa Scores Early, Not Often in Loss to San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Iowa Cubs (48-37) fell just short by a score of 2-1 to San Antonio (52-33) at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium Tuesday night.

Iowa got the scoring started early with an Ian Happ walk followed by a Phillip Evans two-out RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately for the I-Cubs, they would not score again.
In just the second Triple-A start of his career, Jeffrey Passantino had another great outing for Iowa, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings. The righty threw 55 of his 70 total pitches for strikes leading to five strikeouts and no walks.
Passantino held San Antonio scoreless until the fourth inning when they tied the game on a sacrifice fly from David Freitas scoring Mauricio Dubón.
The I-Cubs left the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning and San Antonio used that momentum to take the lead on a Jake Hager double scoring Tyrone Taylor from first.
Iowa threatened again in the top of the ninth inning getting runners on first and second, but Jay Jackson got Dixon Machado to strike out and Happ to groundout to end the game.
POSTGAME NOTES:
• Duane Underwood Jr. threw two scoreless innings, extending his scoreless innings streak to 8.0 innings over five games. Over this stretch, Underwood has allowed seven hits and struck out 10 with just two walks.
• Mark Zagunis failed to get on base, snapping both his 12-game hitting streak as well as his on-base streak at 24 games.
• With the loss, Iowa fell to 5-4 while being tied after seven innings.
• Jim Adduci fouled a ball off of his foot in the second inning and was forced to come out of the game, ending his five-game hit streak
