Omaha captured the lead in the third as a Billy Burns leadoff double turned into a run. Adbert Alzolay held the Storm Chasers to the single run through four, but lost his footing in the fifth. Three-straight Chaser hits were capped by a Frank Schwindel two-RBI double to push Iowa into a 0-4 hole.
Iowa got a run back in the sixth when a towering pop fly knocked off Burn's glove in center to give Stephen Bruno two free bases. Wynton Bernard took advantage with a scathing ball off the wall in center for an RBI double. That would account for Iowa's only scoring drive of the game. Bernard would finish his night 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Alzolay took his second-consecutive loss, falling to 2-3 on the season. The righty gave up four runs on nine hits through 4.1. Kyle Ryan took over in the fifth and gave Iowa 3.2 brilliant innings, serving up just one hit and one walk while fanning four. Anthony Bass rounded out the I-Cubs' pitching effort with a shutout ninth.
Iowa wraps up the homestand with a 1:08 p.m. game tomorrow against Omaha at Principal Park. Promotions include Pedal to the Park, Kids Run the Bases Postgame and Family 4 Pack. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
