Wada optioned to Iowa, Medina activated

August 4, 2015

COLORADO SPRINGS - The Chicago Cubs made a series of moves today affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game against Colorado Springs at Security Service Field. Left-handed pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada has been activated from the 15-Day disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Furthermore, right-handed pitcher Yoervis Medina has been added to Iowa's active roster after being optioned to Triple-A on Saturday.

Wada, 34, is 3-4 with a 3.54 ERA (24ER/6.10IP) and 47 strikeouts in 11 starts over two rehab assignments with Iowa this season.

The Japan native began the season on the major league 15-Day disabled list with a sore groin, and was assigned to Iowa on rehab April 17 through May 19. Wada made seven starts for Chicago and went 1-1 with a 3.73 ERA (13ER/31.1IP) and 31 strikeouts to 11 walks, before being placed on the DL again June 28. He was assigned to Iowa for a second rehab assignment July 11.

Medina, 27, has no record and a 7.00 ERA (7ER/9.0IP) in five relief appearances with Chicago this season, and is 0-2 with one save and an 8.68 ERA (18ER/18.2IP) in 16 relief outings with Iowa this year.

With these moves, Iowa's active roster is full at 25 players plus one player on the disabled list and one player on a major league rehab assignment.
