Pinto Roughed Up In First Triple-A Start

The Phillies Triple-A team fell at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays Triple-A affiliate 8-2 Thursday afternoon in Dunedin, Fl.

The loss puts the IronPigs Spring Training record at 2-1 after winning their first two contests of minor league Spring Training.

Three players tallied a hit for the 'Pigs as Carlos Tocci, Mitch Walding, and Chace Numata each singled in the contest with Walding and Numata each notching an RBI.

Walding, the Lodi, Calif., native hit .269 with 13 home runs and 62 RBI between High-A Clearwater and Double-A Reading last season. The Phillies fifth round pick in the 2011 MLB Draft tallied 20 doubles and had over 100 total hits for the first time in his career.

Ricardo Pinto, The Phillies No. 17 prospect by MLB Pipeline, started for the 'Pigs and was touched for four runs, all of which earned, on four hits over four innings pitched. Pinto amassed a record of 7-6 with a 4.10 ERA in his 2016 campaign with the Reading Fightin' Phills where he raked up 101 strikeouts in 156 innings. The Guacara, VZ., native had an even better 2015 campaign split between High-A Clearwater and the Lakewood BlueClaws of the Full Season A South Atlantic League. In 2015 between the two clubs, Pinto finished 15-4 with a 2.97 ERA in 24 starts and racked up 105 strikeouts in 145.1 innings pitched.

Mario Hollands and Edgar Garcia each pitched an inning a piece, with both surrendering two earned runs in their lone innings. Jason Dygestile-Therrien and Yacksel, Rios each tossed a perfect frame as neither surrendered a hit nor a run. In his only inning of work, Rios also notched two punch outs.

The 'Pigs will have Friday off but will pick play back up Saturday against the New York Yankees Triple-A Affiliate, Scranton Wilkes-Barre in Tampa, Fl. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
