Triple-A Phillies win third straight

March 17, 2018

The Triple-A Philadelphia Phillies picked up their third straight victory Saturday defeating the Triple-A New York Yankees 3-1 at the Carpenter Complex in Clearwater, Florida.

The Triple-A Philadelphia Phillies picked up their third straight victory Saturday defeating the Triple-A New York Yankees 3-1 at the Carpenter Complex in Clearwater, Florida.

The Phillies got two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Zach Green home run to build a 3-0 lead. Pitching was the story once against as the Yankees were held off of the scoreboard until the seventh inning. The Phils first got on the board in the bottom of the first on a RBI by Heiker Meneses.
Green has always been known for his power and at times has been given a grade of 70 out of 80 on the power scale. Green was promoted to Double-A for the final month of the 2017 season, appearing in games at third base, first base and DH. A third-round pick out of Jesuit HS in California, Green appeared in 15 games for the Fightin' Phils last season. Green participated in the Arizona Fall League this off-season and batted .258 with a pair of long balls for Glendale.
The Phillies have a surplus of young arms in their system who have all performed extremely well in the early games this spring. Ricardo Pinto started the game for the Phillies, allowing two hits in two innings of work. Seranthony Domoniguez and Ranfi Casimiro each added two innings of relief for the while Pat Neshek, Joey DeNato and Tim Berry each tossed an inning. Casimiro and Dominguez each struck out three in their two innings.
Dominguez was added to the 40-man roster this season to protect him from the Rule 5 draft and the move has proved to be well worth it. The 23-year-old spent the 2017 season with Clearwater but missed an extended period of time due to injury. Dominguez made 13 starts for the Threshers and has made the move to the pen this of season. Because of his success this spring Dominguez will likely land in Reading to begin the season but could be in the Pigs' pen by the summer.
The Triple-A squad hits the road on Sunday to take on the Triple-A Pirates.
