Captains and Sky Carp to Meet for Six Games at Classic Auto Group Park

This series marks Lake County’s first games at home since July 9-14 versus the Lansing Lugnuts (High-A, Oakland).
LAST TIMES OUT
- The Captains split their series at Great Lakes (High-A, Los Angeles – NL), losing game one, winning the next three games, and dropping the final two. Lake County went 6-3 on their nine-game road trip against the Loons and Fort Wayne TinCaps (High-A, San Diego).
- The Sky Carp lost four of six games versus the Midwest League West frontrunner Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (High-A, Milwaukee), winning game one 3-2 before dropping four of the last five contests.
A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS
- Lake County is second in the Midwest League East Second Half standings, trailing the Dayton Dragons (High-A, Cincinnati) by 1.5 games. Lake County won the MWL East First Half title, and still leads the MWL East overall standings by 5.5 games.
- Beloit is tied with the Peoria Chiefs (High-A, St. Louis) for third in the Midwest League West standings, sitting four games out of first place in the MWL West and two games behind the second place Cedar Rapids Kernels (High-A, Minnesota).
FROM A LAND DOWN UNDER
- This week marks the Classic Auto Group Park debut for INF Travis Bazzana, Cleveland’s first No. 1 overall draft pick since the MLB Draft’s inception in 1965.
- Bazzana joins current/former Major Leaguers Spencer Torkelson, Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg, and David Price as the only No. 1 picks since 2000 to debut at the High-A level or higher. He is the 17th first overall pick to debut at the High-A level or higher.
- In three seasons at Oregon State, he set career program records for: hits (251), runs scored (220), home runs (45), doubles (52), stolen bases (66) and walks (180), as well as single-season records in home runs (28), runs scored (84) and slugging (.911).
- The Sydney, Australia native is the first Australian-born player and first second baseman to be drafted first overall in the MLB Draft. He joins two-time All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman (2019) as the only Oregon State Beavers to be the No. 1 pick.
5 PLAYERS TO KNOW – LAKE COUNTY
- INF Travis Bazzana, Baseball America’s No. 19 overall prospect and the No. 1 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, went 2-for-7 with an RBI in his first two Minor League games at Great Lakes, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored on Sunday. At Oregon State, Bazzana was named 2024 Pac-12 Player of the Year, a consensus First Team All-American, and the 2023 Cape Cod Baseball League Pat Sorenti Most Valuable Player.
- C Cooper Ingle, MLB Pipeline’s No. 28 Cleveland prospect, leads the Midwest League with a .327 batting average and ranks second with a .436 on-base percentage. Ingle’s .952 OPS is the highest by a Captain (min. 260 plate appearances) through the first 95 team games of a season.
- RHP Trenton Denholm pitched six innings, allowing one run while striking out five in Sunday’s 3-2 loss at Great Lakes to earn his eighth quality start of the season. Denholm ranks third in the Midwest League with a 1.06 WHIP, and fourth with a 3.36 ERA.
- C Johnny Tincher, the Captain of the Week presented by Official League for July 19-21, is riding a six-game hitting streak and a nine-game on-base streak. During his hitting streak, Tincher is batting .409 (9-for-22) with two homers and seven RBI.
- RHP Carter Spivey has won each of his last two starts and ranks fifth in the Midwest League with a 3.39 ERA. Since May 31, Spivey’s 1.73 ERA is second in the Midwest League and 10th in Minor League Baseball.
5 PLAYERS TO KNOW – BELOIT
- RHP Noble Meyer, MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 Miami prospect and a 2024 MLB All-Star Futures Game participant, is 0-2 with a 3.98 ERA across five starts and 20.1 innings with Beloit. His .143 opposing average between Single-A Jupiter and Beloit is the third-lowest in MiLB among pitchers with 50-plus innings pitched.
- RHP Jacob Miller has earned a quality start in four of his last five starts. His 4.02 ERA leads qualified Beloit pitchers, and his 48.8% ground-ball rate is second in the Midwest League.
- INF Josh Zamora ranks second in the Midwest League with 17 home runs and tied for fourth with 55 RBI. Zamora was the MWL Player of the Month in June, leading the league in home runs (6), slugging (.578), OPS (.980) and total bases (52).
- INF Johnny Olmstead leads the team with 16 doubles and is second with 11 home runs. Since June 14, Olmstead’s eight home runs are tied for first in the Midwest League with Captains OF Jorge Burgos.
- RHP Nigel Belgrave, MLB Pipeline’s No. 30 Miami prospect, is 3-1 with a 2.29 ERA and five saves in 21 relief appearances. His 0.85 WHIP is the third-lowest among MWL relievers with 35-plus innings pitched.
