(MIDLAND, MI) - The Lake County Captains (71-49) let only six Great Lakes Loons (73-49) reach base, taking a 2-0 win on a 75-degree windy Wednesday evening at Dow Diamond. It was the twelfth shutout victory for Lake County in 2022, the most in the Midwest League.

The Captains won their 20th game in August, the most wins in a month since August 2014. Lake County went 20-6, compared to 20-10 in 2014.

Rodney Boone had all his stuff working, completing six innings. The 2021 Eighth Round Pick struck out eight batters, and in two innings stranded two runners on base. The left-hander completed his day by retiring the last seven he faced.

The Captains bullpen took it from there. Jaime Arias in his first appearance since returning to Lake County, after a month with the Akron Rubberducks, punched out four over two scoreless innings. Trey Benton would take the ninth allowing a walk but nothing more getting the potential tying run to groundout. Benton now has eight saves in 11 opportunities.

Despite leaving nine on base, the Captains offense pushed across two runs. In the first, Christian Cairo began the game with a base on balls and then stole second. Milan Tolentino struck out but a dropped third strike put him aboard. With two on, Alexfri Planez reached on an infield single that scored Cairo. Three strikeouts would conclude the inning.

An insurance run was plated in the sixth. Korey Holland led off with a single, one of his two, and after stealing second, was brought across the plate after an RBI triple to straightaway centerfield from Aaron Bracho.

Cesar Idrogo, in his first start as a Captain, earned his first career hit with a single in the fourth.

The Captains go for their fifth straight victory and third in a row over the Loons tomorrow Thursday, September 1st. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
