Pigs drop opener in Toledo

A three-run bottom of the eighth lifted the Toledo Mud Hens over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4-3 in the opening game in Toledo. Mike Gerber homered twice for the Mud Hens.

The IronPigs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third against Tyler Alexander. Dean Anna brought in the first run of the game with an RBI single and was chased home one batter later on triple by Collin Cowgill. Joey Meneses and Danny Oritz each had two hits for the Pigs. 
Drew Anderson tossed seven innings but did not earn a decision. He struck out eight and allowed just three hits. Anderson worked in to the eighth but did not record an out. Tom Windle (9-4) finished the innings and allowed two runs before being charged with the loss. 
Tyler Alexander allowed a pair of unearned runs in 7 1/3 innings for the Mud Hens. He struck out four and scattered seven hits in his start. 
Mike Gerber hit his second solo home run to tie the game at two in the eighth. Later in the inning, Christian Stewart put the Mud Hens on top with a two-run single of Windle to complete the comeback. 
The Pigs and Mud Hens continue their four-game set Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Ranger Suárez goes for his second win as a Pig against Matt Hall for Toledo. 
The IronPigs return home July 24 when they welcome the Gwinnett Stripers. That Tuesday evening contest will be Christmas in July at Coca-Cola Park with 1,500 kids receiving an IronPigs Elf on the Shelf presented by Lutron.
