Pigs blank Bisons in series opener

A two-run home run by Joey Meneses (18) in the top of the first inning was all the offense the Lehigh Valley IronPigs needed in their 2-0 victory against the Buffalo Bisons on Monday at Coca-Cola Field. Tom Eshelman (2-9) earned his first win since April 13 after tossing seven scoreless innings.

The Pigs were limited to just three hits in the game. Meneses delivered the big blow to account for the game's only runs. 
Dean Anna went 1-4 and extended his hitting streak to 18 games. Since the streak began back on July 6, Anna is batting .290 with eight RBI. Scott Kingery holds the franchise record with a 23-game hitting streak.
Eshelman tossed seven shutout innings against the while allowing just four hits. He struck out four and only walked one. In his last nine starts, Eshelman has posted a 3.38 ERA (53.1/20).
Héctor Neris struck out two in his inning of relief and earned. Neris has a 1.93 ERA in 14 games for Lehigh Valley since being optioned. Pedro Beato (27) shut the door in the ninth to close out the win.
The Bisons and IronPigs continue their five game series tomorrow night at 7:05. Ranger Suárez returns to the hill for the Pigs against Nick Tepesch.
