Lindsey Knupp, Vice President of Marketing and Entertainment for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, was honored this month with the ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award.
The award, presented each year by the Women's Business Council of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, is given to an area leader who excels professionally and in the community while serving as a role model for young men and women.
Knupp, who has been part of the IronPigs organization since its inaugural season, accepted the award during a ceremony on October 17.
"One of the best things I hear from parents, teachers and IronPigs fans in general is that their daughters, students and other young women they know look up to me and consider me a role model and someone they aspire to be like when they grow up," Knupp said to the crowd gathered at the State Theatre Center for the Arts in Easton, Pa. "Being from the Lehigh Valley and always being involved in sports, it's a passion of mine to make a difference and be someone that young women and men can look up to."
Knupp is one of the key figures in the IronPigs' rise from new franchise to one of the most respected and valuable brands in all of Minor League Baseball in just 10 years. The team maintains the strongest promotional schedule in MiLB and has captured a number of awards including Ballpark Digest's "Promo of the Year" and GameOps.com's "Best Game Operations and Presentation" award. She was named named the MiLB Woman Executive of the Year in 2015.
"Bringing Lindsey on board a decade ago is one of the best moves this organization will ever make," said IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes. "It's been a pleasure watching her grow as a professional and seeing the ways in which she's elevated our team. Lindsey's impact on the IronPigs, and in our community, cannot be overstated."
In what has been an eventful October for Knupp, she was also inducted into the Shippensburg University Athletic Hall of Fame this month. A two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American, Knupp totaled 146 points in her four-year career and still holds the school record for assists in a single season with 17.
