LOWELL, MA - A rough home stand came to an end Sunday night as the Spinners dropped their fifth consecutive game in front of the home crowd to the State College Spikes (18-23).
Brian Brown took the hill for Spinners and delivered two scoreless innings. He allowed a trio of hits and a pair of strikeouts without walking a batter.
State College struck first off of reliever Taylor Ahearn in the third inning. In his three innings of work, Ahearn allowed five runs (three earned) with a strikeout and a walk.
Lowell finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh after Trey Ganns ripped a double and Kole Cottam drove him home with a single to right, cutting the lead to 5-1.
Reliever Kevin Biondic allowed two runs in the top of the eighth to push the score to 7-1 Spikes.
Lowell now hits the road for six games starting with a three-game set in Hudson Valley against the Renegades. Yorvin Pantoja takes the hill with first pitch scheduled to 7:05 p.m.
