LOWELL, MA - After a pair of offensive explosions in the first two games of the series, it was the Spinners (32-27) pitching staff who carried Lowell to a sweep of the division-leading Tri-City ValleyCats (33-27).
The offense struck first in the bottom of the sixth. Korby Batesole singled and Lane Milligan walked to start the inning. After a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, Tyler Esplin brought home Batesole to make it 1-0. Xavier LeGrant then doubled to bring in Milligan, pushing the lead to two.
Starting pitcher Yorvin Pantoja delivered his longest outing of the season with 6.2 innings of work. He struck out four, walked three, allowed four hits, and an earned run.
Logan Browning threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to set up Andrew Politi for his team-leading sixth save of the season, closing out a 2-1 victory to pull within a half-game of the division lead.
The Spinners hit the road and head to Staten Island on Monday for a three-game road trip. Lefty Brian Brown takes the hill with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
