Solter, offense bury Myrtle Beach on Saturday

Lynchburg secures the series win with the victory

Lynchburg, Va. - The Lynchburg Hillcats collected 14 hits as they cruised to an easy 6-1 win over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Saturday night.Lynchburg (21-19) took a lead in the second inning and never looked back as Myrtle Beach (15-28) continues to falter in the first half of the season.

Lynchburg, Va. - The Lynchburg Hillcats collected 14 hits as they cruised to an easy 6-1 win over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Saturday night.
Lynchburg (21-19) took a lead in the second inning and never looked back as Myrtle Beach (15-28) continues to falter in the first half of the season.

The Pelicans got on the board first in the top of the second inning. Tyler Payne led off the inning with a double, and Aramis Ademan followed him up with a double of his own to score Payne and give Myrtle Beach a 1-0 lead.
To the bottom of the second inning, where Trenton Brooks  got on base with a one-out single. Gavin Collins  went the opposite way with an RBI double, scoring Brooks to tie the game at 1-1. After a single by Wilbis Santiago Jonathan Laureano  knocked in Collins with an RBI single to give the Hillcats a 2-1 advantage.
The Hillcats added to their lead in the fourth inning. Laureano singled his way aboard and moved up to third on a single by Luke Wakamatsu . With one out, Steven Kwan  dropped down a bunt, allowing Laureano to race home on the safety squeeze to extend the Lynchburg lead to 3-1.
In the sixth inning, Wakamatsu led off the frame with a double. A two-out RBI single by Nolan Jones  drove in Wakamatsu to make it 4-1 Hillcats.
Lynchburg tacked on another in the seventh inning. Brooks doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Collins. A wild pitch allowed Brooks to run home to push the Hillcats lead to 5-1.
In the eighth inning, the Hillcats added the cherry on top when Jodd Carter  swatted a solo homer, his sixth of the season, to give Lynchburg a 6-1 lead.
Brooks, Laureano, Wakamatsu and Jones each collected multi-hit games.
Matt Solter (Win, 2-0) tossed six innings of one-run baseball while striking out seven batters for his second straight win to start his Carolina League career. Jonathan Teaney Jared Robinson , and Anthony Gose  combined for three scoreless frames out of the bullpen for the 'Cats while collecting three strikeouts as a group.
Erling Moreno (Loss, 2-5) allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks over four innings of work. Ryan Kellogg was tagged for two earned runs in 2.2 innings of relief, and Manuel Rodriguez gave up Carter's solo homer in the eighth as a part of 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.
The Hillcats will aim for the series sweep on Sunday as they conclude their 10-game homestand against the Pelicans. Lynchburg will send right-handed starter Justin Garza (3-3, 5.09) to the mound to face off against Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans have not yet announced their starter for the series finale. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

Sunday will also be a Sandlot Sunday, in which all kids in attendance will be able to run the bases following the conclusion of the game.
