PEARL, MS -- In conjunction with The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, the Mississippi Braves announced that Tom Glavine was named to the Southern League's 2017 Hall of Fame class earlier today. The 2017 class consists of three members as elected by a panel of 20 voters.
Glavine posted a record of 11-6 with a 3.41 ERA in 22 starts for the 1986 Greenville Braves. He struck out 114 while walking 70 in 145.1 innings pitched that season. He also tossed two complete games for the G-Braves that year. In his 22-year career in the big leagues, the left-handed pitcher posted a career record of 305-203. Glavine had a 3.54 career ERA and he struck out 2,607 batters. He spent most of his career with the Atlanta Braves, but he also had a brief stint with the NY Mets (2003-07).
A member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame's Class of 2014, Glavine made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves on August 17, 1987. The southpaw is a 10-time MLB All-Star and a two-time NL Cy Young Award winner. He was named 1995 World Series MVP and he's won the Silver Slugger Award four times. Glavine's No. 47 was retired by the Atlanta Braves on August 6, 2010, and he was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame. Glavine was elected to Cooperstown in his first year of eligibility. 2017 Southern League Hall of Fame Class includes Glavine, Gabe Kapler and Tony LaRussa.
