Aces Launch Brett's Big Leaguers Presented by Barrick Gold

April 24, 2010
RENO, Nev.-The Reno Aces Baseball club and manager Brett Butler have launched Brett's Big Leaguers presented by Barrick Gold, an initiative aimed at benefiting the lives of local underprivileged and seriously ill children, the organization announced today.

Through Brett's Big Leaguers presented by Barrick Gold, more than a dozen times this season the Reno Aces will welcome a specially-selected child to a game at Aces Ballpark. The child will be given the chance to participate in a number of exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, including one-on-one interaction with Butler and members of the Aces team. The program will serve to offer positive role models for at-risk or underprivileged youth and tender a positive outlook for seriously ill children in the area.

The Aces have partnered with a pair of local organizations-the Children's Cabinet and the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation-to select participants for the program.

The Children's Cabinet offers services and resources that address unmet needs for local children and families.

"The Children's Cabinet exists to keep children safe and families together, and Brett's Big Leaguers presented by Barrick Gold will add to our mission for kids to experience big league baseball in a pro social, positive environment, that can potentially change their lives," said Michael J. Pomi, Executive Director of the Children's Cabinet. "The Children's Cabinet appreciates Brett and the Aces giving time to our kids and the positive impact that time will make for them as they grow and develop individually."

The Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation aims to enhance the quality of life for children with cancer and their families by providing financial assistance and compassionate support programs, while advocating for increased research funds and raising public awareness.

"What an amazing opportunity Brett's Big Leaguers presented by Barrick Gold will offer to some very special children battling cancer in our community," said Lizzie Dalton, Director of Programs and Services. "In a time full of doctors, hospitals and fear, this program will provide a fun and positive escape for the patients and their families."

The Barrick Gold Corporation has joined the Aces to help make this program possible for local youth.

"We are very excited to be partnering with the Aces on the Brett's Big Leaguers program," said BeBe Adams, Community Relations & Government Affairs Manager. "The Barrick Gold Corporation and the Reno Aces are both dedicated to being positive influences in the community, and we look forward to helping benefit the lives of local children."

Levy Restaurants, concessionaire for Aces Ballpark, will provide a complimentary meal for each child and his or her families during that day's game.

Brett's Big Leaguers presented by Barrick Gold will offer its first experience to a local child at Sunday's 1:05 p.m. game at Aces Ballpark versus the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
