Attendance Continues to Rise For Curve

Average Crowd for Curve Home Games on Rise for Second Straight Season
August 15, 2012
CURVE, Pa.  - For the second consecutive season, the average crowd for Altoona Curve home games is increasing.  With one regular season homestand remaining, the Curve have averaged 4,225 fans per game at Peoples Natural Gas Field.  That figure is nearly 200 per game more than last season after 55 home dates (4,030 after 55 dates in 2011).

This growth continues a two-year trend of increasing attendance per home date as more people attended 2011 Curve games on average than in 2010.  Last season, an average of 4,205 fans were on hand for each of the Curve's 68 home dates.  In 2010, the average crowd was 4,150.

Throughout the season, the Curve have been trending slightly above the previous two years in terms of average crowd.  However, last week's seven-game homestand, which featured sizable crowds each night - including one of over 7,000 and two eclipsing 6,000 - have widened the increase in average attendance significantly.

"We're extremely grateful to our fan base, our sponsors, and the media coverage we've received," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan.  "Without their continuing support and trust, Curve Baseball would not be thriving as it is in this our 14th season.  I'm also very appreciative of our front office staff, our game day employees, the Altoona Curve Booster Club, our players and coaching staff, and all those who play an integral role in making this a long-term success story.  Last but not least, we're fortunate to have such a tremendous relationship with our parent club, the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Their commitment to have the Major League team play here in Altoona next year is yet another example of how strong that bond has been and continues to be."

The Curve begin a nine-game road trip tonight in Portland, but will return home on Thursday, August 23 for an eight-night homestand against Richmond and Akron.  The last regular season slate of home games will include three fireworks shows, an appearance and autograph session by Pittsburgh Penguins' All-Star forward James Neal, and three giveaway events.  For tickets, fans can call toll-free at 877-99-CURVE, log on to AltoonaCurve.com, or stop by the ticket office at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
