BayBears snap Pensacola's eight-game winning streak

Bullpen fires six scoreless frames in one-run victory

MOBILE, Ala. (April 23, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, put an end to the eight-game winning streak for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos with a 3-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The game was tied 2-2 from the fourth inning through the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, Andrew Daniel came through with an RBI single, his second hit of the game, to plate Zach Welz and put the BayBears (8-9) ahead 3-2.

Ronnie Muck, Jon Fitzsimmons, and Eric Karch (1-1) pitched two scoreless frames each after starter Osmer Morales exited the gave after just three innings. Karch earned the victory, improving his scoreless streak to 10 2/3 innings.

The BayBears (8-9) briefly fell behind 2-1 after three innings, but Jose Briceno tied the game with an RBI single in the fourth. Briceno went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for Mobile.

Luis Castillo notched a quality start for Pensacola (13-4), giving up two runs on five hits in six innings pitched. He left with the game tied 2-2 and did not factor in the decision.

Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in his 11th Major League rehabilitation start with Pensacola.

The BayBears won the game 3-2 despite being out-hit 9-8. The Blue Wahoos left 12 men on base and went 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Sunday's game was the ninth one-run game for Mobile in its first 17 this season.

The BayBears continue the five-game home series Monday at 6:35 p.m. against Pensacola. Right-hander Luis Diaz (2-0, 0.00 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Keury Mella (0-2, 6.39 ERA) for the Blue Wahoos.
