Bergman sets new Sky Sox scoreless mark

The concepts of baseball at altitude and pitching records don't cross paths often, but that rule has nearly stopped applying when Christian Bergman toes the rubber.

The Rockies prospect established a new franchise record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched at home, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out two over eight frames as Triple-A Colorado Springs walked off with a 1-0 win over Memphis in 10 innings.

Colorado's 24th-round pick in 2010 set his club's mark by extending his home scoreless streak to 24 innings. Bergman, who hasn't allowed a run at Security Service Field since April 16, also continued a string of lengthy outings, going eight frames for the third consecutive time in his home ballpark.

The right-hander pitched with baserunners aboard in four of his eight innings, but stranded at least one man in scoring position in each of those. He retired the side in order in his other four. In total, Bergman recorded 11 outs on the ground and eight through the air while firing 64 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

Bergman hasn't allowed an earned run in four of his last six starts, and his stingy streak has dropped his ERA from 9.39 after a no-decision on April 16 to 3.24. His 0.30 ERA in May is the second-best among all Minor Leaguers with at least three starts.

While the UC Irvine product dealt, Memphis starter and No. 16 Cardinals prospect Zach Petrick matched him. Petrick allowed three hits and a walk while striking out three over seven shutout innings.

Colorado Springs came through in the 10th. With the bases loaded and no one out, No. 6 Rockies prospect Kyle Parker bounced a walk-off single to center field that plated Rafael Ynoa with the game-winning run.

Redbirds reliever Jorge Rondon (1-1) allowed the decisive run on three hits in the 10th.

The win was the third 1-0 victory for the Sky Sox in their last 12 home games and their second in extra innings.

Chad Bettis (2-1) allowed a hit and a walk in two innings.
