Chapman tagged twice in longest start

Louisville left-hander allows first home runs as a professional
April 28, 2010
Heralded Reds prospect Aroldis Chapman suffered the roughest outing of his short professional career on Wednesday night in Louisville's 5-4 loss at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Louisville left-hander allowed three runs -- two of them earned -- on five hits over a career-high six frames and left the game with the Bats leading the host Yankees, 4-3. He gave up the first two home runs of his career, striking out four and walking two.

After two uneventful frames, Yankees second baseman Reegie Corona reached base on an error by Bats third baseman Wilkin Castillo with one out in the third inning. Kevin Russo followed with his first home run of the season to left field.

David Winfree led off the fourth with a shot to left before Chapman bore down and retired nine of the next 10 batters he faced.

It was the Cuban emigre's longest appearance by both innings and pitches in four starts. He threw 99 pitches, 64 of them for strikes. The two earned runs raised his ERA to 1.29.

Enerio Del Rosario (1-1) took the loss for the Bats. After retiring the first five hitters he faced, Del Rosario yielded a single to Eduardo Nunez and a homer to Juan Miranda with two outs in the eighth.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Ivan Nova went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out three. Reliever Zack Segovia (1-1) got the win with 1 1/3 no-hit frames. Mark Melancon picked up his third save of the season with a perfect ninth.
