Moncada homers against former club

After switching Sox in the offseason, baseball's top prospectYoán Moncada wasted no time showing his former organization what they're missing out on Tuesday.
On his first swing against the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox, the No. 1 White Sox prospect slugged a 1-0 offering over the right-field fence of BB&T Ballpark to tie the game. The Charlotte Knights went on to win, 3-1.

After spending the first two seasons of his Minor League career in the Red Sox system and making his Major League debut in September, Moncada was dealt to Chicago in the Chris Sale trade on Dec. 6. Then he went to Spring Training in Arizona -- 2,200 miles away from his former club.
But in the International League, Moncada quickly came face to face with his former organization in the form of someone else with a new team. Right-hander Shawn Haviland, who was with the Indians in 2016, served up his first home run of the season and Moncada's third.

Wearing No. 42 as part of an extended Jackie Robinson celebration and playing second base -- the position at which the Major League legend spent the majority of his time -- Moncada also showed off his glove. In the eighth inning, the 21-year-old snagged a line drive off the bat of Mike Miller, then threw to first to double off Junior Lake. Moncada also was involved in three other double plays against Pawtucket.
"It's just a matter of him getting comfortable out there and feeling comfortable out there," Knights manager Mark Grudzielanek told reporters after the game. "He is one of those guys who has a lot of tools, but who has to really bear down and lock it down each and every play, each and every pitch, be ready for anything that's out there that happens. So we're doing some things out there, but he's definitely getting better, he's moving his feet, he's getting behind the ball a little bit and he's feeling more and more comfortable out there."

No. 5 White Sox prospect Carson Fulmer (2-1) -- Chicago's top prospect at the time of the Moncada trade -- worked around a run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings. Seventh-ranked Zack Burdi picked up the save after allowing two hits and striking out three in the ninth.
