Diaz named Bluefield manager for 2009

The Baltimore Orioles announced its Minor League coaching staffs for 2009 and Rookie-level Bluefield will be piloted by Einar Diaz.

The former Major League catcher was a field coach for the Gulf Coast League Orioles in 2008.

Pitching coach Troy Mattes and field coach Jim Saul both return to Bluefield for their third season there in 2009.

Diaz, a career .254 hitter in the Majors, retired at the end of the 2007 season. He was invited to the Cleveland Indians spring training camp in Winter Haven in 2008 as a special assistant for catchers and later became a field coach for the Gulf Coast Orioles in the Baltimore system.

Diaz has 21 homers and 202 RBIs for his career,spending times with Cleveland, Texas, Montreal, St. Louis and Los Angeles.
