DURHAM, NC - Jesus Feliciano's big night powered the Bulls past the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday night, ending Durham's seven game losing streak. The Bulls centerfielder collected a season-high four RBI as Durham defeated the IronPigs 8-6 at the DBAP.
Stephen Vogt helped the Bulls jump on the board with double to start the home half of the first, before being plated by a Henry Wrigley sacrifice fly. Batting in the leadoff spot for just the second time in his career, Vogt went 2-for-4 on the night with a double, RBI and a walk.
The IronPigs got the lost run right back in the second thanks to an RBI double from Pete Orr, before adding two more runs in the fourth. Cody Overbeck doubled to bring home a run in that frame, then scored home himself on another Orr RBI.
Down by one in the bottom of the fourth, the Bulls bounced back with three runs of their own to go on top 5-3. Matt Mangini hit a ground ball that could have been a double play, but second baseman Kevin Frandsen couldn't handle the grounder, allowing Leslie Anderson to score and tie the game at 3-3. Feliciano then stepped to the plate and smoked a bases clearing double to put the Bulls firmly on top 5-3. Both Mangini and Feliciano finished the game with three hits. The pair combined to go 6-for-8 with 2 R, a double and six RBI.
Durham piled on three more runs in the following frame to take a commanding 8-3 lead. Mangini, Feliciano and Vogt recorded three straight RBI singles in the frame, ensuring a Bulls victory.
Jim Paduch (W, 5-7, 5.28) was solid in his first start at home since the All-Star break. He worked 5 2/3 innings before leaving the game with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth. Cesar Ramos came to the rescue, and on one pitch got Orr to ground out to first, retiring the side. Ramos tossed 2 2/3 innings before running into trouble in the top of the ninth. With the IronPigs threatening, Manager Charlie Montoyo went to his All-Star closer Dane De La Rosa, who got the job done to finish off Lehigh Valley. The Bulls victory snapped a seven game skid that started before the All-Star break.
Lehigh Valley returns to the DBAP on Wednesday night to take on the Bulls at 7:05pm. LHP Pat Misch (7-10, 4.50) will take the hill for the IronPigs opposite the Bulls' RHP Matt Torra (8-6, 4.22).
