Flying Karamazov Brothers Appearance Moved to 9/1
Entitled Flings and Eros, this production opens the 2009-2010 MRT season, but Spinners fans will get a sneak preview during the Spinners Sept. 1 game when the Spinners take on the Hudson Valley Renegades.
Flings and Eros is a whimsical retelling of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, presented with typical Karamazov Brothers flair. Drawing inspiration from the worlds of theater, the circus, and vaudeville, the production blends raucous humor, awe-inspiring juggling, and catchy music and dance.
The Flying Karamazov Brothers have been entertaining audiences since 1973. Though the cast has changed over the years, the creative antics and nonstop energy have not. They have appeared onstage around the globe, including stints on Broadway, television, and in film. The troupe has received acclaim and recognition worldwide, including an Obie Award.
The current "brothers" (no, they're not really related) are Mark Ettinger, Rod Kimball, Stephen Bent, and Paul Magid. Magid also serves as the show's writer and director, while the other cast members, in addition to performing, wrote the music and lyrics.
This season opener for the MRT is also a world premiere. Performances run September 10 through October 4 at the Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell. Tickets are available through the theater's website.
