Homer's Hugs for Hope to Benefit Local Charities & Disaster Relief Initiative

FORT MILL, S.C.  - Charlotte Knights mascot Homer the Dragon will be attempting to set the World Record for “Most Hugs Given in a 24-hour Span” from Thursday, May 19th at 9:00 PM to Friday, May 20th at 8:59 PM.  The current world record is 8,709.

This project, called “Homer Hugs for Hope”, will begin at Knights Stadium during the Knights 7:15 PM game with the Toledo Mud Hens.  Over the next 24 hours Homer will work his way through various places in Charlotte including the Epicenter, LYNX light rail, Bank of America plaza and local elementary schools all in search of a hug.  He will ultimately finish “Homer Hugs for Hope” at the Knights Friday night game.

The goal of “Homer Hugs for Hope” is to reach out into the community and spread a little joy to everyone with the help of Charlotte’s most beloved mascot, Homer the Dragon. We are suggesting a $1 donation per hug with all donation proceeds going back into the community. The Knights are hoping to raise $8,000 to be distributed to the following charities: local schools, Community Blood Center of the Carolinas, and the Disaster Relief Initiative.

The Knights are also encouraging fans to come out to the Knights home game on Friday, May 20th at 7:15 PM to continue to hug Homer for hope. A portion of ticket sales on Friday will also go to the charities in the name of “Homer Hugs for Hope.”
