Four-run sixth secures Bumgarner's second straight win

Madison Bumgarner pitched six strong innings and Angel Villalona homered Tuesday as the Augusta GreenJackets topped the West Virginia Power, 5-1, to take a 2-0 lead in the South Atlantic League Championship series.

Bumgarner (2-0) allowed an unearned run on four hits while striking out six and walking two to earn his second playoff win. The SAL Pitcher of the Year has fanned 16 over 14 innings without giving up an earned run in two postseason starts.

Mitchell Lively followed with three perfect frames, striking out three, for his first save of the playoffs.

Augusta trailed, 1-0, before Nick Noonan delivered an RBI single in the sixth. Villalona slugged a two-run shot to put the GreenJackets ahead for good as they closed within a win of their first title since 1999.

Mike Ramlow (1-1) retired just one batter and gave up three runs on three hits. Power starter Daniel Merklinger limited Augusta to one run on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk over 5 1/3 innings.

Steffan Wilson doubled and scored West Virginia's lone run on on a passed ball in the fourth. The Power host Game 3 on Thursday. Box score
