Lookouts' Pederson hits 10th blast

No. 3 Dodgers prospect fourth in Southern League in homers

Joc Pederson hit his 10th home run -- fourth-best in the Southern League -- in Chattanooga's 3-1 victory over Huntsville. The Dodgers' No. 3 prospect also has 19 steals in 22 attempts and an .896 OPS on the year. Pederson holds second place in the league batting race with a .302 mark.

Ross Stripling (3-1) earned the win. The club's No. 18 prospect allowed one unearned run on three hits and two walks, striking out five, over six innings. The right-hander's ERA stands at 2.75 and he has struck out out 36 and walked six in 36 innings for the Lookouts.


Matt Fields hit two homers, a single, scored three times, and drove in three in the Naturals' 5-2 win over the Travelers. The cleanup hitter is tied for the Texas League lead in home runs with 18. The Royals prospect also hit two homers June 8.


Jake Marisnick scored twice, drove in two and missed the cycle by a home run as his Suns fell, 11-8, to the Biscuits. Miami's No. 2 prospect has a .282/.337/.524 line with nine homers and nine steals in 42 games in the Southern League.

Kyle Jensen hit his 15th home run for Jacksonville.


Erik Johnson (8-2) registered his Southern League-leading eighth victory for the Barons in their rain-shortened 1-0 win over the Generals. Johnson dropped his ERA to 2.23 by allowing three hits and a walk while striking out four in five innings.

Chicago's No. 2 prospect Trayce Thompson went 3-for-3 and scored the game's only run.


Eric Jokisch (5-6) gave up a run on three hits and three walks while fanning three in six innings in Tennessee's 2-1 victory over Mississippi. The Cubs lefty has a 3.50 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 79 2/3 innings.

Frank Batista picked up his ninth save with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth.


Frisco's Chih-Hsien Chiang hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning in the RoughRiders' 2-1 win over Midland. The blast was Chiang's sixth of the year.
