Miscues cost Tides in 4-1 loss

Gwinnett scored three unearned runs on four Norfolk errors in a 4-1 win over the Tides Tuesday night.

With the Braves leading 1-0 entering the fourth inning before Norfolk made four errors in the frame. Three of those errors were made by Tides starter David Pauley (7-8), who ended up taking the loss despite striking out eight and not walking a batter in six innings of work.

Gwinnett starter Jonny Venters (1-3) earned his first win of the season after allowing just five hits in seven-plus innings. Norfolk scored its lone run in the eighth when Steve Torrealba led off the frame with a double and moved to third on a single by Melvin Dorta before coming into score on a double play grounder by Chad Moeller.

The Tides and Braves will square off again Wednesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00.
