Naquin Sparks Sweep of Williamsport

Scrappers Win Sixth In A Row
July 3, 2012

The Scrappers offense had been stifled all game long. Then in the top of the 8th inning, Tyler Naquin drove a 0-2 pitch over the head of centerfielder Brian Pointer to drive in 2 runs to tie and take the lead. Naquin ended up at third base with a two run triple and the Scrappers come home from Williamsport with a 3-1 win.

With the win, the Scrappers extend their win streak to six games and complete the 2nd consecutive series sweep. Juan Romero added an insurance run with a towering homerun to leftfield in the top of the 9th inning.

Geoff Davenport started for the Scrappers and worked 5.1 innings. He scattered six hits while allowing one unearned run and striking out two. Jacob Lee relieved and picked up his second win of the season. Lee went 1.2 innings without allowing a hit or a run while striking out three. Enosil Tejeda worked the bottom of the 8th and the 9th innings to pick up his 3rd save of the year.

Early 4th of July fireworks went off in the top of the 9th. After Romero blasted his NYPL leading 5th homerun, Crosscutters pitcher Steven Inch threw a fastball behind the head of Jeremy Lucas. Inch was immediately ejected from the game. No further incidents occurred.

The Scrappers will return home tomorrow night as they look to extend the winning streak to seven as they welcome the Aberdeen Ironbirds to Eastwood Field. There will be a 4th of July fireworks show to follow the game along with an auction of the special Stars and Stripes hats that the players will wear on the field. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
