Quad Cities River Bandits set attendance record

Quad Cities River Bandits set attendance record
August 31, 2012
With 6,082 fans at Modern Woodmen Park for the River Bandits' game with the Kane County Cougars Friday night, a total of 240,008 attended River Bandits games this season, setting the single-season attendance record for the Quad Cities River Bandits under the five-year ownership of Main Street Baseball.

For a fifth straight season under Main Street Baseball, more than 200,000 fans have attended Quad Cities River Bandits games at Modern Woodmen Park - a streak unprecedented in the history of the minor league franchise that joined the Midwest League in 1960.

"All the fans who came to the ballpark this season showed again why the Quad Cities have the greatest fans in minor league baseball," said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. "The success of another memorable season belongs to the fans who have made Modern Woodmen Park the best ballpark in minor league baseball."

Earlier this season, the franchise welcomed the seven millionth fan since 1960 to watch a Quad Cities minor league regular season baseball game. Each of the attendance totals from the first five seasons of ownership by Main Street Baseball rank among the top 10 in single-season attendance figures for the Quad Cities franchise since 1960. This season's attendance was the highest since 1995.

This season alone the River Bandits have already had three crowds of more than 7,000 fans, including a season-high 7,380 on July 3. That crowd was the largest since 7,538 attended the River Bandits game July 3, 2009 - the single-game record for Quad Cities since it became an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the 2005 season.

"This season has been special in so many ways - with unique promotions, exciting baseball games and great people filling the ballpark," said General Manager Stefanie Brown. "The support of our dedicated fans has made this a truly memorable season."

The Quad Cities franchise record for single-season attendance is 260,471 - a mark set in 1994 as the Quad City River Bandits, an affiliate of the Houston Astros.

ABOUT THE BANDITS: After four years of ballpark improvements, the River Bandits and the City of Davenport last summer unveiled some of the most impressive enhancements to Modern Woodmen Park yet. A brand new, state of the art, high definition 20' x 35' video board went live on June 7, 2011, and the newly enclosed glass Sky Deck on the suite level of Modern Woodmen Park was completed in August 2011. Those improvements, in addition to new flood protection, a new front plaza, and a new parking lot directly across the street from the ballpark, are quickly making Modern Woodmen Park one of the premier facilities in all of Minor League Baseball. More improvements are scheduled for this coming season!
