Quakes Shutout Storm 3-0

September 11, 2009
On the heels of the first playoffs win since 2003, Rancho had a chance to score a run in the first inning as Andrew Romine singled and made it to third on a sac-bunt and a ground out, but Jeremy Moore grounded out to end the inning.

The Quakes had chances with runners in scoring position in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th innings, but failed to get a run in.

Quakes starter Manuel Flores pitched in an out of trouble all night stranding runners in scoring position in the 3rd and 5th innings. The Storm managed just six hits against Flores in his seven innings of work.

Wynn Pelzer was equally as good for Lake Elsinore allowing just three hits while striking out seven in seven innings.

The Quakes and Storm stayed even 0-0 until the top of the 9th when Jeremy Moore tripled against All-Star closer Bryan Oland with one out. Jay Brossman followed with an RBI single to give the Quakes a 1-0 lead. Hector Estrella then followed with a hit and run RBI double to score Brossman from first and Clay Fuller delivered and RBI double off the right field wall to grab a 3-0 lead.

After a scoreless 8th from Kevin Nabors, Michael Kohn came in out of the Rancho bullpen and allowed just one hit before striking out Danny Payne to end the game and advance the Quakes to the Southern Division Finals against High Desert.

Rancho will start the best-of-five series against High Desert on the road on Saturday at 7:05pm. Right hander Steven Hensley will pitch for High Desert and Rancho's starter is to be announced.
