Rhinehart and McFarland Win Weekly Awards

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of June 27th through July 3rd:

Harrisburg Senators outfielder Bill Rhinehart has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 27th-July 3rd. The 26-year old batted .480 (12-for-25) with three doubles, two home runs, nine runs scored, six RBI, three walks and a .840 slugging percentage in seven games for the Senators last week. Rhinehart, who is a native of Roseville, California, had five multiple hit games and scored at least one run in all but two of the games he played in during the week, including going 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, three RBI and three runs scored in a 9-3 win at New Britain in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The 6'0", 202 lb. slugger ranked first among all Eastern League players in batting average (.480), slugging percentage (.840), OPS (1.392) and runs scored (9) last week. He also finished among the weekly leaders in on-base percentage (.552-2nd), total bases (21-tied 2nd), hits (12-tied 3rd) and home runs (2-tied 3rd). Bill, who was named to the Western Division roster for the 2011 Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 11th round of the 2007 draft after hitting .372 with 13 homers and 66 RBI in 56 games during his senior season at the University of Arizona.

T.J. McFarland, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Akron Aeros, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 27th-July 3rd. The 6'3", 209 lb. southpaw made one appearance for the Aeros last week and had a record of 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in six innings pitched. McFarland, who is a native of Palos Hills, Illinois, made his only start of the week on Wednesday afternoon at Canal Park against Bowie and pitched six strong innings in Akron's 4-1 victory. He allowed just one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out five batters to even his record at 4-4 on the season. The 22-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in WHIP (0.33) and batting average against (.048) last week and also tied for first in ERA (0.00). For the season McFarland has a record of 5-4 with 52 strikeouts and a 4.09 ERA in 70.1 innings and is tied for first in the league in complete games (2). He has allowed three earned runs or less in 11 of the 14 starts he has made for the Aeros this season. T.J., who opened this season with the Kinston Indians of the Class-A Carolina League and was promoted to Akron on April 20th after posting a 2.25 ERA in a pair of starts, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the fourth round of the 2007 draft out of Stagg High School in Palos Hills, Illinois.
