A Facebook page has also been established for the cause; www.facebook.com/GrandSlamforSandy . Hernandez has utilized his Twitter account, @Jays0n_Hernan to promote the cause and update fans.
"I want to thank the Sea Dogs from the bottom my heart for helping out with this, it is truly amazing and humbling to see the response that we've had so far," stated Jayson Hernandez.
Hernandez, 24 years-old, spent the 2012 season with both the Sea Dogs and Single-A Salem. During his time in Portland he became actively involved in the community speaking at several schools, assisting with clinics, and making numerous appearances.
"Jayson was an outstanding representative of the Sea Dogs organization in the Portland community in 2012, therefore it is not at all surprising to see him lead such an extraordinary effort in his own hometown," stated Sea Dogs Executive Vice-President & General Manager Geoff Iacuessa.
Every dollar raised through Hernandez's Grand Slam for Sandy fundraising effort will be donated to the relief efforts for the victims of this tragic storm.
The Sea Dogs will open their 20th season on Thursday, April 4th at 6:00 PM against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) at Hadlock Field.
