MANCHESTER, NH - With just a few weeks to go before Major League camps open in Florida and Arizona, Minor League players are receiving invitations to report. Many of these players are not on the official 40-man rosters but will have an opportunity to play in Spring Training games. Top-level players rarely play entire games in the spring, and these opportunities for younger players can be educational and a lot of fun.
Spring statistics rarely affect where players start the season. Major League team rosters are usually set, although some opportunities may develop, if injuries occur.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Thursday, January 23 that 16 players have received invites to Dunedin. 14 of the 16 invited have played for the Fisher Cats in either 2023 or 2024. The Blue Jays open camp in Dunedin, Florida on February 13. The full roster reports by February 18. The first spring training matchup is on February 22.

Two of New Hampshire’s offensive leaders from last season are on the list. Both Josh Kasevich and Alan Roden had strong starts before receiving promotions to Triple-A Buffalo. Kasevich hit .284 in 87 games, driving in 41 runs. Roden impressed with a .267 average and a .373 OBP.

The Fisher Cats were led in home runs and RBIs in 2024 by Rainer Nuñez, who also received an invite. The 24-year-old has developed over the past year and a half at the Double-A level and his batting average jumped 51 points last year over 2023.

Catchers are always in demand at the start of the season, so it’s no surprise to see Phil Clarke and Andres Sosa on the invite list. Clarke appeared in 175 games with the Fisher Cats between 2022-24 and hit .307 with a .421 OBP before promotion last year.
Five pitchers were on the non-roster invite list including Ryan Jennings. Jennings was injured in his first start with the Fisher Cats and then was nearly untouchable when returning late in the year. 25-year-old Lázaro Estrada made 11 starts for the Fisher Cats and continues to improve, striking out 55 in 52.1 innings with New Hampshire.

Eric Pardinho has re-signed with the Blue Jays on a minor league contract and has been invited to Spring Training. The Brazilian was originally signed by the Jays as a 16-year-old and pitched to a 1.01 ERA in 21 games with New Hampshire before his promotion to Buffalo.
Other players to keep an eye on in those Spring Training box scores are four players who joined the Fisher Cats after the trade deadline last year – pitcher Braydon Fisher, infielders Charles McAdoo and Eddinson Paulino, and outfielder RJ Schreck. Schreck hit five homers in 28 games after joining the Fisher Cats.
