Trenton - It's been a tough trip to New Jersey. The Fisher Cats dropped a second rain-shortened game to Trenton, falling 4-0 on Saturday night. The game, which started two hours and 15 minutes late, was called in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Yefry Ramírez threw six shutout innings during a driving rain to push his record to 6-0 in six starts against the Fisher Cats this season. Ramirez is the first pitcher to reach ten wins this season in the Eastern League.
The Thunder struck early against New Hampshire starter Conner Greene with three runs in the first inning. Pitching in a heavy rain, Greene walked two of the first three men he faced and the Thunder had the bases loaded with nobody out. Billy Fleming drove in Jorge Mateo with a sacrifice fly to right for the first run. Zack Zehner and Dante Bichette Jr. each followed with RBI singles to give the Thunder a 3-0 lead. Greene (4-8) went just one inning and was tagged with the loss after throwing 36 pitches.
Ramirez struck out the side in the first inning and finished his outing with five total to lead the Thunder to victory. Ramirez has won all six starts he's made against the Fisher Cats this year and dropped his ERA to 1.96 against New Hampshire this year. Jorge Saez added to the lead with his eighth home run of the season in the sixth inning before the game was called.
Among the highlights for the Fisher Cats: Tim Lopes extended his hit streak to nine games with a second inning single and Danny Young worked three scoreless innings, taking over after Greene left.
The final meeting of the season between the teams is scheduled for Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in Trenton. LHP Ryan Borucki is scheduled to make his Double-A debut for the Fisher Cats. Bob Lipman will have the call at 4:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
The Fisher Cats return to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium to open the final home series with the Portland Sea Dogs on Monday at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a special Schimpf on the Barbie Bobblehead, courtesy of FairPoint Communications.
