Manchester, NH - The Eastern League has named New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Player of the Week for the period of April 5 - 15. In his first nine Double-A games, the 19-year-old hit .361 with two home runs, four doubles, and drove in a league-best 12 runs. With Guerrero Jr. leading the way, the Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) are off to the best start in team history, sitting atop the Eastern League with a 7-2 record.
The Blue Jays top prospect enters Monday on a seven-game hitting streak -- with two base knocks in each of his last three games -- and has reached base in every game he's played. Guerrero Jr. is the No. 3 prospect in baseball, according to MLB.com and Baseball America. His first home run was featured on ESPN on April 8, and he went 3-for-3 with another long ball and a career-high six RBIs the next day.
The son of Hall of Famer and 2004 AL MVP Vladimir Guerrero was signed by the Blue Jays for $3.9 million in 2015, and entered the season as the highest-rated prospect in Fisher Cats history.
The Fisher Cats are scheduled to open a four-game series with Tim Tebow and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets Double-A affiliate) tonight at 6:35 p.m. at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Tickets are available online at NHFisherCats.com/tickets or over the phone at (603) 641-2005. For media requests, please contact Tyler Murray (email@example.com).
