The New Orleans Baby Cakes have won Baseball America's Logomania competition to determine the best logo in Minor League Baseball.
The competition, voted on by baseball fans across the country, began a month ago with 36 teams in the field and narrowed to two finalists: the Baby Cakes and the Vermont Lake Monsters. New Orleans ran away with the title by a margin of 81.2 percent to 18.8 percent in the finals.
"This is a milestone for the organization," Baby Cakes general manager Cookie Rojas said. "We are moving the needle in terms of people falling in love with the logo, and winning the Logomania title is validation."
Re-branded last fall from the Zephyrs, a name which carried over with the franchise from its days as the Denver Zephyrs, the Baby Cakes name represents a celebration of the festive atmosphere in New Orleans and the Mardi Gras traditions which bring friends and families together.
"People have rallied around this name. People got engaged," Rojas said. "This is not the Zephyrs name that came from Colorado. This is a new tradition."
