Murphy, Potts lead Alces de Maine to 3-1 win

Portland, Maine- Chris Murphy struck out 11 batters, and Hudson Potts drove in three runs as the Sea Dogs (61-45), playing as the Alces de Maine as part of Minor League Baseball’s Copa De La Diversión initiative, defeated the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (46-54) 2-1 Friday night at Hadlock Field.
Chris Murphy (3-2) earned the win holding the Rumble Ponies to two hits over six shutout innings. He recorded 11 strikeouts for the third consecutive outing and did not walk a batter.
Hudson Potts drove in all three Portland Runs. Potts delivered an RBI single with two outs in the first inning to give the Alces a quick 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Triston Casas doubled with one out, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Potts sacrifice fly to centerfield.
Potts struck again in the eighth inning, after Devlin Granberg walked and Casas singled, Granberg scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Potts for his third RBI of the game.
Binghamton scored their lone run on a solo home run by Yoel Romero off Victor Santos in the eighth inning.
Joan Martinez picked up his fourth save hurling a scoreless ninth inning. Martinez has not allowed a run in his last ten games spanning 12 innings.
Casas reached base in all four plate appearances going 2-for-2 with a single, double, and two walks.
The Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies continue the series Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM. Portland has not yet announced a starter. Right-handed pitcher Oscar De La Cruz (1-4, 7.19) is scheduled to start for Binghamton.
